Healing America’s Political Divide Starts with Love

Can politics and wellness really be in the same sentence? I am here to say yes.

This said, our political system is way past due for a wellness check-up.

The doctor isn’t currently in, but I am hopeful he will arrive soon. Our political landscape is suffering from a chronic condition known as wtf-itis. Political toxicity streaming out of every screen 24/7. There has to be a better way.

If you haven’t heard of this national condition, don’t sweat it. I’ll break it down for you.

A Condition That Needs To Be Treated

This condition, wtf-itis, usually starts off fairly innocuous and benign, but over time it builds into something you might compare to a stage-four cancer. Targeted therapy and surgery are needed to get this hell-ride back on the straight and narrow before it’s too late.

All the wheels have fallen off, people are losing their minds and saying things that are hard to comprehend, people are offending one another at warp speed, and the political and social climate has never felt frostier – and at the same time, more heated. Something akin to what it must have felt like before the Civil War broke out. Both sides dead set their way is the only way. With everyone thinking they are right, someone must be a little wrong, right?

Our country is in a constant state of inflammation, fueled by verbal toxicity – much of which is inaccurate, off-base, and designed to poison the masses. This is intentional and in need of a re-route. There is a hunger and an ache for more wellness. We the people need to see the hostility come to a halt. We need to make it happen. The America we inherited deserves to be uplifted. The time is now.

There Is a Remedy

All kidding aside, we are in trouble, but I believe there is a remedy for what ails us. It starts with the letter L. Love. February is the season for love. So this is the perfect time to set our minds on love.

Love for yourself. Love for your sweetheart. Love for your neighbor. Love for your family. Love for America. Love for being in this moment and in this country, exactly as it is. Perfectly imperfect. A hot mess you might say. Perhaps fractured beyond repair. But hopefully not.

Despite the darkness and divide that lingers, I still see the beautiful core that is the US of A. This beautiful idea, in this most beautiful of places. We all need to rekindle the connection within and remember who we are as one.

But how do we do this?

It’s simple, actually. Get quiet. Put a hand on your heart. Close your eyes and remember who you are. Remember what America is.

Judgement Dissipates

Let the judgement dissipate. There is a good, kind, loving human in there. There are also good, kind, and loving humans who you share this nation with. You undoubtedly disagree with some of them, and they disagree with you. The beauty of America is that we all don’t have to agree on everything. We do have to agree that America is a beautiful idea, one that deserves our love.

I am hopeful there is a cure for wtf-itis, and it starts with you. If we each do our part to help shift the divide we will create something grand. Something beautiful. Something that will stand the test of time and be here long after we’re gone.

But it’s up to us to preserve it. Together we rise, divided we fall my friends. Let love lead us home.
