Multiple Fires Force Evacuations Across Los Angeles, Threatening Thousands of Homes and Lives
Los Angeles is facing a devastating series of fires that have prompted the declaration of a state of emergency.
Multiple fires are currently threatening and spreading across communities across the region, including Pacific Palisades to Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and Altadena. Thousands of residents are being forced to flee their homes as these fires are fueled by dangerous 100MPH winds. Those not under evacuation orders are being asked to shelter in place as the fires spread and threaten lives and property.
Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement on Twitter (@MayorOfLA) confirming the city’s response to the crisis, saying, “We’ve declared a state of emergency to amplify our response to this devastating fire and clear a path for a rapid recovery.”
Evacuation Orders
Over 30,000 residents are now under evacuation orders, and more than 10,000 homes are at risk, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fires have caused significant damage to infrastructure, leaving more than 17,000 customers without power across Los Angeles County, as reported by PowerOutage.US.
In her statement, Mayor Bass expressed gratitude to the first responders, saying, “To the hundreds of brave firefighters and first responders who have been responding all day to this blaze – we thank you.” These courageous men and women are working tirelessly to contain the fires and protect lives.
