Understanding the power of the resurrection
A new study by Lifeway Research reveals 2/3 of Americans believe in the Resurrection Day account of Jesus; they’re just not sure what it means to their everyday life.
“Two-thirds of U.S. adults (66%) say the biblical accounts of the physical resurrection of Jesus are completely accurate. They believe this event actually occurred, according to the 2022 State of Theology study. Fewer than a quarter (23%) disagree, and 11% say they’re not sure.”
The findings also revealed a level of cultural Christianity, meaning a mental agreement with beliefs but not a genuine faith in the heart that results in a changed life and living to serve God. This is revealed further in the State of Theology study, where over 50% of Americans don’t believe the Bible is true.
“In 2022, for the first time in the history of the State of Theology study, a majority of Americans (53%) say the Bible, like all sacred writings, contains helpful accounts of ancient myths but is not literally true. And 40%, the highest percentage yet, say modern science disproves the Bible.”
Further to the study by Lifeway, a growing number of people in the United States don’t believe God is concerned with their everyday life decisions.
“A growing percentage, up to a high of 32%, says God is unconcerned with their day-to-day decisions. And 3 in 5 (60%) say religious belief is a matter of personal opinion, not objective truth.”
This reveals a need in America like never before for the gospel to be preached and lived, for the church in America to realize the harvest is ripe, but the laborers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest field.
