New Executive Order Mandates Citizenship Proof, Targets Election Fraud
President Donald J. Trump took decisive action today to safeguard American elections, signing an Executive Order aimed at restoring trust in the nation’s voting process. The move, announced from the White House, introduces sweeping measures to strengthen voter verification, curb foreign interference, and ensure compliance with federal election laws.

The Executive Order, titled “Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” mandates proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration, aligning federal forms with stricter eligibility checks. Agencies like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Social Security Administration, and Department of State will now provide states access to federal databases to confirm citizenship status. States failing to comply risk losing federal election funding, a measure designed to enforce uniformity and accountability nationwide.
Making Elections Honest Again
“This is about making elections honorable and honest again,” President Trump said. “People deserve to know their vote counts. We’re going to have free and fair elections—ideally with paper ballots, same-day voting, proof of citizenship, and voter ID. Very simple.”
The order also cracks down on non-citizen voting, directing the Attorney General to prioritize prosecutions using DHS records and collaborate with state authorities. Foreign nationals will be barred from administering elections, and existing laws prohibiting their financial influence in U.S. campaigns will see heightened enforcement.
In a nod to election security, the order updates the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0, requiring voter-verifiable paper ballots and banning the use of barcodes or QR codes in vote tabulation. Federal grant funding will prioritize states adopting these standards, aiming to eliminate vulnerabilities in voting equipment.
Reverses Biden-Era Policies
Critics of past election practices will note the order’s reversal of Biden-era policies. President Trump has instructed agencies to undo Executive Order 14019, which he claims turned federal offices into “Democratic voter turnout centers.” Additionally, the Attorney General will enforce a single Election Day deadline, challenging states that count late-arriving ballots in federal races—a practice the administration argues violates federal law.
The White House highlighted global comparisons to underscore the need for reform. While nations like India and Brazil use biometric voter ID systems and Germany relies on paper ballots, the U.S. has lagged with inconsistent standards and widespread mail-in voting. “Without proper enforcement, illegal voting and fraud dilute the voice of lawful citizens,” the administration stated.
Supporters see the order as a fulfillment of Trump’s campaign pledge to “make elections secure again.” The President emphasized, “We will secure our elections once and for all. Unlike the Biden Administration, which prioritized political agendas, we’re putting the American people back in charge.”
