U.S. and Iranian negotiators meeting in New York are exploring a phased path out of the nearly seven-month conflict, according to Reuters, with the Strait of Hormuz at the center of the talks.
Under one possible framework, Iran would allow navigation through the strait while the United States would begin lifting its economic blockade. Iran could also seek access to frozen assets as part of a broader agreement.

The discussions remain preliminary. Reuters reported that neither side wants to surrender leverage first, and major disagreements remain over the sequence and durability of any concessions.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, making its status consequential well beyond the Middle East. Iranian and U.S. officials have both signaled interest in diplomacy, but no final deal has been announced.
