The 132-foot attraction replaces the longtime Giant Wheel in Irvine
A familiar Orange County attraction has a new look. The Spectrum SunWheel is now open at Irvine Spectrum Center, replacing the Giant Wheel that had operated at the shopping center since 2002.
The new wheel officially opened with a ribbon-cutting Sept. 19, according to the Daily Pilot.
Bigger Wheel, New Technology
The SunWheel stands 132 feet tall, 24 feet higher than its predecessor. It includes 27 gondolas that seat up to six passengers and features programmable LED lighting and enhanced audio.
New operating software is also designed to reduce peak wait times. The attraction was manufactured in Italy and assembled in Irvine.
The SunWheel is located at 670 Spectrum Center Drive. The center says the attraction is open daily, with later hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
For generations of Orange County families who associated the Spectrum with the original Giant Wheel, the new attraction carries a familiar local tradition into its next chapter.
