Dangerous heat is expected to build across Orange County beginning Friday and continue into next week.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for much of Orange County beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and continuing through 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Temperatures Climb After Thursday
Thursday is expected to serve as the transition into the hotter pattern. National Weather Service forecasts call for highs near the upper 80s in Irvine and around 90 degrees in Orange, with cooler conditions closer to the immediate coast.
Forecasters say temperatures will rise further beginning Friday, with inland valleys facing the greatest heat risk. The prolonged nature of the event could increase the danger of heat-related illness, particularly for older adults, children, outdoor workers and people without reliable air conditioning.
Residents Urged to Prepare
Residents are encouraged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, drink plenty of water, check on vulnerable neighbors and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
Orange County communities can experience significant temperature differences between the coast and inland areas, so residents should check the latest forecast for their specific city as the heat event develops.
