Pastor Matthew Barnett meets The Rock, helps pregnant mother

In a surprise visit to Echo Park-based LA Dream Center, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson brought hope and encouragement to at least one woman in the ministry’s recovery program. Led by Pastor Matthew Barnett, the homeless ministry and drug addiction recovery program serves hundreds each year. The Rock, his wife, and children came down to give back and lend a hand up to a mother in the recovery program who is expecting another child.

Barnett responded that he has never met anyone who believes in people like The Rock. Updating his X (formerly Twitter) account, Barnett shared how The Rock blessed one of their recovery program participants.

“What a day @TheRock showed up @LADreamCenter and blessed one of our mothers 8 months pregnant who lives on our campus who was formerly homeless. Never met anyone who believes in people like that.”

The Rock also shared how the experience blessed him and his own family. “We got to take our lil’ tornados here, down to the LA Dream Center so we can help out some families who are going thru it,” shared Johnson on Facebook.

“Dream Center is doing amazing work for our brothers and sisters who are struggling and broken – the mana is real when you shake these hands and feel these hugs. Great to meet “mama to be” Zaynah and congratulations on the baby!!”

Johnson and his family brought some supplies down to the expecting mother to help her with a hand up on her journey.

“Enjoy all the stuff. Appreciate our buddies Dream Center founder & CEO pastor Matthew Barnett, Clint Carlton and all the good folks on the “Dream Team” for all you do – THANK YOU. We’ve all been there a time or two and struggling people don’t need a hand out – they just need a hand up. A good & grateful day.”
