Mainstream media announces Jesus Movement

In light of Christian movies taking the Hollywood box office by storm, and the incredible success of the TV series, The Chosen, Newsweek, the magazine and online news source featured on its cover this week, “Jesus Takes Hollywood.”

The proclamation by the widely read magazine includes an illustrated photo of Christ on the cover holding a director’s slate. The article was prompted by the success of films this year including, ‘Jesus Revolution,” the film about the Jesus Movement in the ’70s that started in Costa Mesa, California and spread across the nation. The film became Lionsgate’s highest-grossing film since 2019, has gone on to international distribution, and is a top film on Netflix.  Most recently, the runaway success of ‘Sound of Freedom‘, grossing $181,000,000 at the box offices has Hollywood spinning at the same time. As a result, the top studios in Hollywood including MGM, 21st Century Fox, and Sony Pictures have all launched their own faith-based studios. Additionally, directors Martin Scorsese and Terrence Malick are working on new films about the life of Christ and Netflix is working on adding more faith-based content to its platform.

Jesus Revolution has started

Many faith leaders including Pastor Greg Laurie whose life was featured in ‘Jesus Revolution’ have suggested a new Jesus movement has started, beginning with the Asbury Revival in February 2023, that quickly spread to college campuses across the nation. Couple that with the surging popularity of The Chosen, attracting 100 million+ viewers. All the while this is happening, Sean Feucht and ‘Let Us Worship’ are bringing worship and prayer across this nation in the darkest cities and in the midst of looting, riots, and more.

Next, the revival went to the big screen as featured in Jesus Revolution. People are praying after the movie, giving altar calls and invites to salvation. Shortly after that, a baptism at Crystal Cove, Newport Beach, CA attracted nearly 5,000 people hungry for a God encounter. Then, Sound of Freedom released to unprecedented popularity at the box office. Newsweek is seeing the trends pointing this nation back to God. In the midst of darkness, the light shines so bright and that indeed is what we are seeing happening in America today.
