Singer and Songwriter Jonathan Cain ‘Journey’ of Faith

Journey singer and songwriter Jonathan Cain opened up on I Am Second about his own personal journey to faith. The singer and songwriter shared about his special relationship with his father, who encouraged him to pursue music, stay the course when things got tough, and inspired many of the hit songs that he wrote.

When his father passed away, Cain questioned if he could go on and continue his music. It was in that moment though God showed himself as the author and source of all good things that Cain experienced.

“Then, God, his voice came to me, as I sat there weeping on the piano,” he shared. He heard the Lord say, “No, John it’s been me, it’s been me. It’s me. John, it’s always been me. Through him (John’s father), but I am the source. I am where it comes from John. You’ve pleased me.”

“And I went oh man, how did I miss that, you know.”

Cain acknowledged that God was the one in the room when he wrote “Faithful” and “Open Arms” and other hits that landed the band in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. He then had the revelation of how his music was a channel of God communicating to him

“It opened my eyes to the transcendence of a father reaching down to his son, through his natural father, there is this Heavenly Father, this voice that came to me. Now I know where it all comes from.”

Cain acknowledged that God was the source and now he’s leading worship at his church as his way of saying thanks to God for all he’s given to him.

“Now I understand that my worship music is my way of being grateful, and staying his son.”

“He’s a good God.”
