Divine Timing? New Film Shows Blessing of Adoption

Christian film producers Alex and Stephen Kendrick have teamed up with Kirk Cameron to produce a new faith-based film titled, Lifemark. The timing behind the film may be the most important part. As the country tailspins in the abortion vs. life debate, perhaps God is speaking through this true-story account of an 18-year-old girl placing her baby up for adoption. Years later they reconnect and start the journey of a lifetime.

“It is such a beautiful thing when our hearts start beating along with God’s heart in valuing the orphan, in caring for them. God is a Father to the fatherless and he placed the lonely into families. He created not only the family but he created adoption,” said Executive Producer Stephen Kendrick.

“Scripture says that God forms us in the womb he is the one who breathes life into us. We believe life is precious and we are to as Proverbs says defend those who can’t defend themselves,” shared Alex Kendrick who also served as Executive Producer and part of the cast.

The storyline according to the producers is this: “David’s comfortable world is turned upside down when his birthmother unexpectedly reaches out to him, longing to meet the 18-year-old son she’s only held once. With the encouragement of his adoptive parents, David embarks on a journey of discovery that leads to a staggering truth from his past. From executive producers Kirk Cameron and the Kendrick Brothers—creators of War Room and Fireproof—comes LIFEMARK, inspired by an incredible true story that celebrates the gift of life.”

“This move is pro-family, pro-love, pro forgiveness, pro reconciliation, and new beginnings,” said Kirk Cameron who plays David’s adopted father in the film and also as Executive Producer of the film set to come out September 9 in theaters only.

The film reveals a redemptive, real-life story of successful adoption and speaks loud and clear that abortion is not the answer and certainly not the only answer to unplanned pregnancies. Adoption does work, there are families wanting to adopt and you’re not alone. People want to help.

Life can be busy, life can be hard, families are broken, God has a way of stepping into really painful hard situations and bringing redemption and hope and healing,” continued Executive Producer Stephen Kendrick.

This is the Kendrick brothers’ second collaboration with Kirk Cameron on a faith-based film, the first since 2008’s release of Fireproof. The film contains a heart-felt story, humor, and also action including skydiving, rock climbing, ATVing, and knife throwing. For the Kendrick brothers, it’s about sharing a positive inspiration film and inspiring people to see a life that could have been lost but instead turned out amazing.

Alex shared, “We think it is going to give them an inspirational view of a life that was saved and how that life turned out.”
