Jury Convicts Former President; Sentencing Set for July 11

In a historic, unprecedented, never seen before decision, jurors have found a former President guilt of a crime. President Donald J. Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. Each count carries a maximum prison sentence of four years, cumulatively amounting to a potential 136 years in prison.

The jury’s verdict was delivered on the second day of deliberations, marking a historic moment in a trial that has captivated the nation and sparked intense political debate. The charges stem from allegations that Trump falsified financial records to conceal a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. The payment, made before the 2016 election, was purportedly intended to keep Daniels quiet about an alleged 2006 affair with Trump.

‘Beyond a reasonable doubt’

Prosecutors needed to prove “beyond a reasonable doubt” that Trump deliberately falsified these records to cover up the payment, which they argued was aimed at influencing the outcome of the presidential election.

This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge…the real verdict is going be November 5th by the people.

Trump’s defense team argued vigorously throughout the trial and contend Trump’s innocence and lawfare by the democratic party to keep Trump from the ballot and from a projected win in the November election. However, the jury found the evidence against the former president to be enough to unanimously convict him of all 34 counts.

Trump vows to fight on

In the wake of the verdict, Trump took to Truth Social to express his dismay, reiterating his claims that the trial was politically motivated. “THIS WAS A DISGRACE—A RIGGED TRIAL BY A CONFLICTED JUDGE WHO IS CORRUPT. WE WILL FIGHT FOR OUR CONSTITUTION—THIS IS LONG FROM OVER! DonaldJTrump.com,” he wrote.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 11 at 10 a.m., five days before the Republican National Convention, where Trump was expected to receive the party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election. This timing places additional pressure on the political landscape as motions related to the case are due by June 13.

The outcome of this trial is poised to have far-reaching implications, not only for Trump’s personal future but also for the broader political environment as the 2024 election approaches.

A rigged trial by a conflicted judge

Trump spoke with reporters after the verdict was delivered saying, “This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge…the real verdict is going be November 5th by the people.”
