The Misguided Ideology of ‘Evangelicals for Harris’

The late Billy Graham preaching the gospel, whose words have been controversially misused in a political attack ad by "Evangelicals for Harris" against Donald Trump, despite Graham's message not being directed at any specific political figure.

In a misguided move, the group calling itself “Evangelicals for Harris” has drawn criticism for using copyrighted material from the late Billy Graham in a smear campaign against Donald Trump. What makes this even more troubling is their justification for doing so—using Graham’s words, not originally aimed at Trump, to bolster their attacks on Trump’s character.

Blind ‘leading’ the blind

The group has attacked Trump’s morals while turning a blind eye to the many transgressions of the Biden-Harris administration. From a chaotic foreign policy that has led to wars and the deaths of innocent lives, to an ever-expanding culture of lies, lawfare, and the rampant promotion of abortion, the Democrats’ record is conveniently overlooked. Yet, in a bizarre twist, Kamala Harris is portrayed by this group as compassionate—what they call empathy is, in fact, toxic. It’s a distortion of right and wrong, as they applaud a leader who has supported policies that undermine the sanctity of life and the rule of law.

The fundamental role of government is to protect its citizens, enforce the rule of law, and secure its borders. Under this administration, that mission has been grossly neglected. The Biden-Harris team has essentially opened the floodgates, allowing illegal immigration to surge unchecked, putting American citizens at risk.

Witnessing confusion

What we are witnessing with “Evangelicals for Harris” is confusion. Instead of acknowledging their legal and ethical misstep—using copyrighted material inappropriately— and theological confusion they have chosen to double down, going as far as to attack Franklin Graham over it. Franklin, son of Billy Graham, and supporter of President Trump, has been unfairly maligned by the group. They claim that he’s afraid of their ads because they “hold Trump’s words up to the light of Scripture.” But this is an opportunistic and baseless accusation. In reality, they are misusing Scripture and slandering a faithful servant of God to justify their own political ends.

At its core, the group’s messaging is incoherent, presenting a distorted view of compassion and empathy while excusing the moral and legal failures of the very leaders they support. “Evangelicals for Harris” have demonstrated not just poor judgment in using copyrighted material without permission, but also a failure to recognize their deeper spiritual confusion.

Cease and Desist

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has issued a cease and desist letter to the group which reportedly spent $1MM on the ad campaign.

“The liberals are using anything and everything they can to promote candidate Harris. They even developed a political ad trying to use my father @BillyGraham’s image. They are trying to mislead people. Maybe they don’t know that my father appreciated the conservative values and policies of President @realDonaldTrump in 2016, and if he were alive today, my father’s views and opinions would not have changed.”
