In one of the country’s most poverty-stricken areas where drugs are trafficked daily, homeless encampments line the streets, Maverick City Music brought the sound of worship and praise. Thousands came out to support Los Angeles Mission’s Musiic Matters, an event many are hoping may play a role in sparking the next Azusa Street revival in Los Angeles. Musiic Matters, an acronym for “Maintaining strategic investments in community,” Maverick City Music shared how they were excited to play the night before at Crypto.com arena before 12,000 people but they were event more excited to be out on Skid Row the next day bringing hope and opportunity for the community.
“So honored to have partnered with@thelamissionfor the Music Matters event alongside our brother@kirkfranklin! We had an incredible time serving and worshipping with so many yesterday on Skid Row.
Forever grateful to be able to bring the Kingdom and be a reflection of God’s love on this side of heaven!???#TheKingdomIs”
The event was produced by the Los Angeles Mission in partnership with Maverick City Music, Live Nation and Kirk Franklin. It was sponsored by UCLA Health, LA Lakers, US Bank, and Inland Builders, among others.
Reverend Troy Vaughn, President & CEO of LA Mission shared with Christian Post, “I think that by being visible and unapologetic about our faith in the space, but understanding that the warfare that we have now is really warfare that is happening behind the scenes for those that aren’t believers. We understand that we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities; powers that rule this present age are part of the darkness.
So our job is to be agents of light and to move forward in that light of love and to allow that transformative power of the Spirit to take place. We’ve got to be very intentional about doing that and partnering with other members of our community that align with that, to see that the greater humanity in all of us come to the surface and be either trained change agents that I believe our Creator meant us to be, to take over our areas of responsibility to be responsible for each other, to be our brother’s keeper.”
