New documentary follows Casting Crowns rise to fame and commitment to local church

What started as a youth group worship team has become one of the most recognized and successful worship teams in Christian music today. Now the story of Casting Crowns is being told in a special documentary, HOME BY SUNDAY to celebrate 20 years of some of the most popular Christian worship music

HOME BY SUNDAY is set to be exclusively in theaters with limited screenings beginning November 30.

In the new documentary, hear the moving stories behind the band’s journey, music, and ministry. From their humble beginnings as a youth worship team to the inspiration behind one of their most beloved songs and a near-life-ending diagnosis, HOME BY SUNDAY gives a behind-the-scenes look into the mission and mindset that has driven Casting Crowns for the last two decades. Includes exclusive performances of “Praise You In This Storm,” “Only Jesus,” and “Nobody” that you can only see during this exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.

Oncea  youth pastor, always a youth pastor

“I’m a youth pastor and I want to stay a youth pastor, how can we do this?” said Mark Hall, lead singer of the band. But when their popularity started to spread and the band was doing 86 shows per year, it became a challenge. Hall shared how being a youth pastor kept the band grounded and helped them not let their newfound fame get to their heads. “The fame and people being excited about you is a bit of an allusion.”

What moves Hall and Casting Crows the most is connecting people to God and the fact that God uses a humble student pastor from Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, GA. For Hall choosing student pastor or musician, it’s always been student pastor because that is where his faith is lived out in its truest and rawest sense. It’s this commitment to the local church that has launched their success and kept them rooted in why they do what they do.

“God is connecting with that person through a song that he let me write,” relates Hall visibly moved that God would allow him to be a part of drawing people closer to God. “That’s why music is so powerful because it can point us to the Father.”
