Historic Baptism Event Unites Thousands Across California

Over 12,000 individuals were baptized across California, marking the largest synchronized water baptism event in U.S. history. Organized by Baptize California, this historic event saw hundreds of churches, including Oceans Church, Saddleback Church, and Zoe Church, partnering to make this spiritual milestone possible. The largest gathering took place at Huntington Beach.

Following the momentum of last year’s Baptize SoCal event, this past weekend Baptize California aimed to set a new record for 2024. On Saturday and Sunday, churches statewide coordinated baptisms, sharing numbers and allowing attendees to witness the extensive reach and impact of this unified effort.

The beachfront at Huntington Beach became a focal point of worship, prayer, and public declarations of faith as thousands gathered to be baptized in the ocean. Musicians including Bethel Music, Martin Smith of Delirious, and Sean Feucht brought the sound of worship to the oceanfront event and a profound sense of unity and spiritual revival among the thousands involved.

Pastor Mark Francey of Oceans Church, the host of the central event, shared his excitement: “God has more in store for California, as evident in the increasing resurgence and spiritual hunger among individuals and churches in the state. This event promotes widespread spiritual awakening and unity.” He added, “God is not done with America, and we believe that by uniting the Church and turning fully back to Jesus, we can see our land healed.”

Not done with California

Musician and worship leader Sean Feucht, who played a significant role in the event, echoed this sentiment, saying, “God is not finished with this state!” His words resonated with many, capturing the spirit and hope that underscored the day’s events.

The record-setting baptism event highlighted the growing movement among California’s faith communities to come together in a powerful testament of collective faith and commitment to spiritual renewal. Francey and other organizers are already looking forward to future events, inviting more churches to join the movement with Baptize America – next year’s event scheduled for June 8, 2025 where churches across America are invited to participate
