GOP Leaders Criticize Executive Order as “Desperate Political Stunt” Amid Ongoing Border Crisis

In response to mounting criticism, the Biden administration finally decided to issue an executive order on the border crisis that has reached epic proportions under their watch. This comes on the heels of Biden saying there was nothing else he could do to curb the mass migration that has seen upwards of 10 million + migrants enter the United States. Instead of taking responsibility, Biden choose to pass blame onto the global and systemic challenges contributing to the current migration crisis. According to a proclamation issued by President Biden, the world is experiencing the highest levels of displacement since World War II, driven by factors such as failing regimes, economic hardship, violence from transnational criminal organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic, and natural disasters.

GOP leaders respond

In a sharp rebuke, House Speaker Mike Johnson, alongside GOP Majority Whip Steve Scalise and Rep. Elise Stefanik, condemned President Biden’s recent Executive Order on border policy, labeling it a “desperate political stunt” intended to bolster his falling poll numbers. The statement was released in response to Biden’s latest efforts to address the ongoing border crisis.

Johnson and his Republican colleagues assert that Biden’s approach since his first day in office has been to implement a failed open-border agenda. They argue that this has resulted in an unprecedented humanitarian and national security crisis. According to the GOP leaders, every American community has been affected, transforming them into border communities and exposing the country to violent criminals, terrorists, cartels, and dangerous drugs.

Not addressing key issues

“The Executive Order is superficial,” the statement reads. It criticizes the order for not addressing key issues such as parole abuses and the catch-and-release policy. Furthermore, the GOP leaders claim that the Biden administration continues to misuse the CBP One app, fails to reimplement the successful Remain in Mexico policy from the Trump era, and provides no additional resources for border patrol. They argue that the order does not include measures to deport the millions who have entered the U.S. illegally since Biden took office and that it will allow further illegal immigration before any so-called shutdown authority becomes effective.

Johnson and his fellow Republicans point out that over a year ago, House Republicans passed the Secure the Border Act, which they believe would effectively resolve the border issues. However, they accuse President Biden and Senate Democrats of dragging their feet and not taking meaningful action, thus endangering the safety and security of American communities.

In concluding their statement, the GOP leaders express confidence that the American public will see through what they describe as Biden’s “election-year stunt,” emphasizing their belief that the Executive Order is a political move rather than a genuine solution to the border crisis.
