Hamilton defending rights of women surfers

Professional surfer, shark attack survivor, mom, and author Bethany Hamilton is taking a stand against a new surf rule that would allow transgender-identifying men to compete against women. Hamilton spoke up, realizing that many younger women in the sport may not share their honest feelings about this for fear of being ostracized for it. Hamilton, a strong Christian, would not be silenced however and her stance in again inspiring others.

“And I feel that I must speak up and stand up” for others who cannot or won’t speak out about this as they “fear” they might be “ostracized” if they speak out,” Hamilton shared in her Instagram post.

Who is pushing for this huge change?

Hamilton continues by questioning how is this helping the sport of surfing and questions where this is coming from. “Who is pushing for this huge change?… Does this better the sport of surfing? Is this better for the women in surfing? If so, how?”

Hamilton posed some important questions and brought her faith perspective to bear. We need more people like Hamilton who aren’t afraid to speak up and use their platform to speak the truth.
