As faith-based films take Hollywood by storm, Amazon is getting in on the action. This time it’s with the release ofOn a Wing and a Prayer, a new faith-based movie release premiering exclusively on Amazon Prime. The film, produced by MGM & Roma Downey’s LightWorkers Media, shares the inspiration true story of one man’s will to save his family and return to his foundation of faith amid a life-or-death circumstance. The film stars Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham, and Jesse Metcalfe. It is produced by Roma Downey, directed by Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer and The Miracle Season), and inspires audiences that God hears and answers prayer if we reach out.
Downey told the National Catholic Register that she is in the hope movie business. This script particularly caught her eye because of the action and drama and yet, the hopeful message it portrays to audiences.
“When On a Wing and a Prayer showed up on my desk,” Downey shared, “I read it eagerly because it has thriller elements in it! I have gone through struggles in my own life — as we all have — and I have witnessed firsthand in my life the power of prayer. And so I think the thing that most attracts me to this story is that, in the darkest of circumstances, when this family found themselves hurtling through the air with a dead pilot at the controls of the plane, they were reliant on God, handing their situation over to the good Lord.”
Quaid has been a go-to for faith-based films, playing roles in I Can Only Imagine, American Underdog, Soul Surfer, and others.
“I’ve always been spiritual. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church, and became disillusioned with it as a teenager. I turned to Eastern religions and philosophies,” he told The Chicago Sun-Times. “I read the Bible twice, read the Koran, went to India nine times. Along the way, I came back to Christianity, and well, finding that it’s really the same all throughout the world,” Quaid is quoted as saying.
For audiences looking for a faith-based, mostly family-friendly film, On a Wing and a Prayer delivers a decent option.
