Restoring lives from homelessness and addiction is no easy task. Los Angeles Mission is hoping its new Dignity by Design concept can help. The idea is to create a space where men and women can come off the streets and instead of feeling like they are in a shelter, it feels a bit more like home. The new design features personal space, storage, electricity, and single bunks as opposed to the former design which functioned more like a prison. Not exactly the design to facilitate restoration and freedom from addiction.
Now thanks to the LA Mission and its friends and supporters, this is all changing.
“People will be able to come in here, stabilize themselves, and then we can find appropriate housing placements for them within our community,” said Pastor Troy Vaughn, President, and CEO of the Los Angeles Mission.
“Let’s open this place up,” said Vaughn as he cut the ribbon, announcing the opening of the 100 beds to the community.
The Mission believes this is a step in the right direction for the ministry focused on serving the homeless since 1936. Los Angeles Mission’s plans are to renovate its dorms and then systematically go through its whole facility creating a safe space for men and women to find help and hope along with opportunities for a brighter future.
